The Mourne Mountains and Ring of Gullion area has lots of picturesque and fun filled destinations for you to have a BBQ. Every year we enjoy the outdoors by celebrating National BBQ Week which runs from 3 - 9 June 2024. We encourage everybody to pick their favourite destination for a day outdoors and enjoy a meal with their loved ones.

Here we have some suggestions of places for you to get out and fire up those grills!

The saying “every day brings something different” was very true last week, as we teamed up with Newry, Mourne & Down District Council for a familiarisation trip to explore some of our local attractions and experiences.

The Good Craic Guide to the Mournes is a free booklet sharing loads of hidden gems in the Mourne area.  As an Australian who has made the Mournes my home I love sharing the wonderful places and people that I've discovered here. 

The Strangford Lough area is very picturesque and offers lots for families to do and see. Strangford is a small village at the mouth of Strangford Lough, which is the UK’s largest sea lough. The 10 minute ferry links the villages of Strangford and Portaferry and is an exciting experience for young and old as you take in the stunning scenery of this Marine Nature Reserve and try to spot seals, seabirds and jellyfish as the tide rushes past.

The people of Mourne, Gullion and Strangford are known for their love of horses. Many of the local myths and legends feature the majestic animal and their stature and status in society continues to this day. There are several places and several great ways you can take an equestrian adventure of your own while you’re here. So saddle up and get ready to canter.
