About
Beginning and ending at the site of Russell's execution at the Old County Gaol of Down, now Down County Museum, the tour explores a series of locations closely associated with Thomas Russell and the United Irishmen, including Saintfield, Ballynahinch, Annadorn and Loughinisland.
Through visits to these historic sites, participants will gain a deeper understanding of the people, places and events that shaped this pivotal period in Irish history.
The tour will be led by Newry, Mourne and Down District Council's Heritage Officer, historian, author and poet, Linda McKenna. Travel between locations will be by coach, with some walking and standing required at each stop.
Participants are advised to check the weather forecast in advance and wear suitable clothing and footwear.
