About
Soil… but make it art!
Drop in for a relaxed and eye‑opening demo with the Mourne Gullion Strangford Global Geopark and AONB Team, and discover how soil can become beautiful, organic art through a process called soil chromatography.
This short taster session is perfect for anyone who missed the full workshop on 31 January and still wants to experience the magic.
Artist Julie Corcoran will guide us through the technique. She'll show us how each swirl, ring, and burst of colour reveals the unique "fingerprint" of every soil sample. As we explore the patterns together, we'll begin to see our landscapes in a completely new way.
In this short session, you will:
Watch soil slowly transform into art right before your eyes.
Discover how every handful of soil is unique—just like the landscapes across our Geopark.
Learn why healthy soil shapes the places we love and work to protect.
This demo forms part of the Imbolc Festival, Ring of Gullion, a celebration of the landscapes, heritage, and communities that make the area so special. The festival is rooted in the ancient landscape of the Ring of Gullion AONB and its surrounding hinterland. Running from Wednesday 28 January to Sunday 8 February 2026, it marks a powerful moment in the seasonal calendar.
