On April 30th Martin O'Brien will be in conversation with investigative journalist and author Sam McBride. Sam is Northern Ireland Editor of the Belfast Telegraph and the Sunday Independent newspapers. He also writes on Northern Ireland for The Economist and made a BBC film about the Northern Bank robbery. He is author of The Sunday Times bestseller Burned: The Inside Story of the 'Cash-for-Ash' Scandal and Northern Ireland's Secretive New Elite.

His book For and Against a United Ireland (co-written with Fintan O'Toole) has earned critical acclaim, while his journalism has received major industry honours, including multiple UK Regional Press Awards, a British Journalism Award, and international recognition for his Killing Edgar podcast. Sam was named Local Journalist of the Year at the British Journalism Awards in 2024 for his major exposés on the environmental crisis in Lough Neagh and his campaigning for press freedom and transparency.
