About
Saintfield is a village located about halfway between Belfast and Downpatrick. Before coming to the name “Saintfield” this village was known as “Tawnaghnym” and then “Taunaghnieve”, (the field of the saint). This English translation did not come to use until the 18th century.
Rowallane Garden is a National Trust property located immediately south of Saintfield, County Down, on the A7 road. It is particularly noted for its extensive collection of azaleas and rhododendrons. It is also home to the National Collection of penstemons.
