St John's Point Ketch and St John's Point Sloop are two self-catering cottages on the St John's Point Lighthouse station in Killough, Co. Down, each sleeping 4 across a double bedroom, a twin room, and a sitting room. Designed by the engineer George Halpin Senior and first lit in 1844, the lighthouse's tall tower is marked with vibrant yellow-and-black daymark bands – according to local lore, once painted by the writer Brendan Behan. There are views out to the Isle of Man on one side and the Mourne Mountains on the other, and St John's Point was recently featured on Netflix.
Both cottages ooze character, with plenty of nooks and crannies to explore and a cosy retreat for board games, cards, or a good book – a complete break from the 21st century. Guests have access to a wet room for rinsing off their own surfing and diving gear, alongside a full kitchen, washing machine, and gas-fired central heating. It's a 5-minute drive to Killough, 10 minutes to Ardglass, and 20 minutes to Downpatrick, Strangford, and Dundrum.
Children are welcome at both cottages, though there are animals on site – including a pair of ponies usually grazing in the pen nearby – so children must be supervised. No pets are permitted at either cottage.
