Welcome to the Footsteps in the Forest Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs), your guide to everything you need to know for this year’s event. From ticketing and accessibility to what you can expect on the trail, this section will help you prepare for a magical, safe, and unforgettable evening in Slieve Gullion Forest Park.
Set within the Ring of Gullion Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Footsteps in the Forest is a ticketed, seven-day Halloween festival held in Slieve Gullion Forest Park, Co. Armagh. Find out more on the Footsteps in the Forest festival page.
Inspired by the ancient Gaelic festival of Samhain (pronounced 'Sow-in'), visitors follow an illuminated woodland trail through the Otherworld, encountering mythical characters, immersive storytelling, spectacular illuminations and theatrical performances along the way.
Footsteps in the Forest offers a magical Halloween adventure for all ages, blending folklore, creativity and the natural beauty of Slieve Gullion Forest Park.

Footsteps in the Forest takes place from Wednesday 21 to Tuesday 27 October 2026, with bookable sessions from 4pm to 8pm at Slieve Gullion Forest Park, Co. Armagh.
Footsteps in the Forest takes place at Slieve Gullion Forest Park, 89 Drumintee Road, Killeavy, County Armagh, BT35 8SW. Slieve Gullion Forest Park is situated just 5 miles southwest of Newry City, on the B113.
Slieve Gullion Forest Park is approximately a 15 minute drive from Newry City, 1 hour from Belfast, and 1 hour 15 minutes from Dublin, offering easy access to the Forest Park. More information is available in our Getting to page and on the Footsteps in the Forest Access page.
Sessions take place each evening from 4pm, with the final session beginning at 8pm, from Wednesday 21 to Tuesday 27 October 2026. View the full session schedule and book your preferred timeslot on our Book Tickets page.
Sensory Friendly sessions will take place daily at 4pm and 4.30pm to support visitors with sensory needs, offering a calmer and more relaxed experience, with lower music levels, reduced sensory stimulation and more natural daylight during the earlier part of the evening.
Irish language sessions will take place on Friday 23 October 2026.
Accessible sessions will take place on Monday 26 October 2026, offering an inclusive experience on accessible, level ground close to the main event space with no mountain climb required.
A British Sign Language (BSL) interpreted session will take place at 6pm on Monday 26 October 2026 to support visitors who use sign language.
We recommend that visitors arrive 10 minutes before their allocated session time.

The Footsteps in the Forest experience lasts approximately 60 – 80 minutes, depending on visitor numbers and how long you spend enjoying the illuminated trail, performances and interactive elements along the route.
Yes. Footsteps in the Forest is a ticketed event and advance booking is essential. Tickets will go on sale on Thursday 1 October 2026 at 12noon, with each ticket admitting one car with up to seven seats. All visitors must have a valid ticket to attend the festival.

By purchasing a ticket for Footsteps in the Forest, visitors agree to the following Conditions of Sale and Entry:
Tickets cannot be exchanged, rescheduled or transferred to another date.
Tickets are not eligible for a refund, except in the event of a festival cancellation. In the event of a cancellation, refunds will only be issued to the original ticket purchaser.
In the event of a cancellation, tickets cannot be used for future Footsteps in the Forest events.
All visitors under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian at all times. The accompanying adult is responsible for the supervision and conduct of the minor throughout their visit. Proof of age may be required.
To ensure a safe and enjoyable environment for all, Management reserves the right to refuse admission where necessary.
Management may require any visitor to leave the event if their behaviour is deemed inappropriate or not in keeping with the event and will take reasonable steps to enforce this where required.
Yes, parking is available onsite for visitors attending Footsteps in the Forest. The £10 ticket per car includes the Slieve Gullion Forest Park car parking fee. Accessible parking is also available for Blue Badge holders.
Visitors should follow event signage and the instructions of event stewards on arrival.
Yes, there is a variety of accommodation options available, including family-friendly hotels, B&Bs, self-catering properties and caravan parks. More details of where to stay in and around the Ring of Gullion.
We welcome everyone to Footsteps in the Forest and are committed to ensuring an accessible and enjoyable experience for all visitors.
Please be aware that the 1.65km forest trail follows the natural landscape of Slieve Gullion Forest Park. The trail includes steep gradients, uneven surfaces and areas of rough terrain, which may be difficult to navigate for wheelchair users and those with limited mobility. Prams are permitted; however, they are not recommended due to the trail's steep gradients and uneven surfaces, and many visitors find baby carriers or slings more convenient. Trail conditions may also be affected by wet weather, so visitors are advised to exercise caution throughout the trail.
To support visitors with sensory needs, Sensory Friendly sessions will take place at 4pm and 4.30pm each evening from Wednesday 21 to Tuesday 27 October 2026. Footsteps in the Forest is an outdoor evening event set within the natural woodland environment of Slieve Gullion Forest Park.
Visitors are advised to wear warm clothing and appropriate footwear, as the trail includes steep gradients, uneven surfaces and areas of rough terrain. Weather conditions may vary, so waterproof clothing and sturdy shoes are recommended to help ensure a comfortable and enjoyable experience.
Anyone under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.
No, unfortunately Footsteps in the Forest is not suitable for dogs. We kindly ask visitors to leave their four-legged friends at home for the comfort and safety of all visitors. Registered assistance dogs are welcome.
Yes, a selection of seasonal refreshments and warm beverages will be available to purchase near the trailhead, giving visitors the opportunity to enjoy a festive treat as part of their Footsteps in the Forest experience.
Toilets are located adjacent to the car park and include baby changing facilities for visitors with young children.
In addition to the permanent facilities at Slieve Gullion Forest Park, additional temporary toilet facilities will be provided onsite during the festival near the trailhead.
Yes, Slieve Gullion Forest Park will remain open to the general public until 2.30pm each day during the festival. After this time, access will be restricted to Footsteps in the Forest ticket holders to allow event operations to take place safely.
The safety and enjoyment of our visitors, staff and performers are our top priorities. In the event of inclement weather, such as heavy rain, lightning, or severe storms, we may temporarily suspend activities or, if necessary, evacuate the area to ensure everyone's safety.
We closely monitor weather conditions leading up to and during the festival and will communicate any changes through our official website, social media channels and onsite announcements. Please check these platforms regularly for updates. If weather conditions result in the cancellation of a festival session, updates will be provided through our official website and social media channels.
Please note that tickets cannot be exchanged, rescheduled or transferred to another date or person. In the event of a cancellation due to inclement weather, tickets will not be valid for alternative sessions or future Footsteps in the Forest events.

Security personnel and Child Protection Officers will be stationed throughout the trail to assist visitors and respond to any security concerns or emergencies.
Emergency medical staff and facilities are available onsite to manage any health-related incidents. Signage will direct visitors to these facilities if required.
