Footsteps in the Forest is committed to providing an accessible and enjoyable experience for all visitors. Set within the natural woodland environment of Slieve Gullion Forest Park. As the trail follows the natural landscape of the forest, visitors should be aware that it includes steep gradients, uneven surfaces and areas of rough terrain. We encourage all visitors to review the information below when planning their visit.

Accessibility Points to Consider:

The trail is approximately 1.65km in length and follows the natural landscape of Slieve Gullion Forest Park, including steep gradients, uneven surfaces and areas of rough terrain.

Some sections may be difficult to navigate for wheelchair users and visitors with limited mobility.

Prams are permitted; however, they are not recommended due to the trail's steep gradients and uneven surfaces. Many visitors find baby carriers or slings more convenient.
Sensory Friendly Sessions
To support visitors with sensory needs, Sensory Friendly sessions will take place at 4pm and 4.30pm each evening from Wednesday 21 to Tuesday 27 October 2026. These sessions are designed to provide a calmer and more relaxed experience, with lower music levels, reduced sensory stimulation and more natural daylight during the earlier part of the evening.

Accessible Sessions
Accessible Sessions offer an accessible and inclusive way to experience the magic of Footsteps in the Forest. Taking place on Monday 26 October 2026, this special event has been designed to make the atmosphere, storytelling, folklore and wonder of Samhain easier to enjoy on accessible, level ground close to the main event space, with no mountain climb required.

Getting to Footsteps in the Forest
Slieve Gullion Forest Park is approximately a 15-minute drive from Newry City, 1-hour from Belfast, and 1 hour 15 minutes from Dublin, offering easy access to the Forest Park.
Public Transport
Mourne Gullion Strangford is well connected by road and rail. Newry City Train and Bus Station offers direct connections from Belfast and Dublin, while Downpatrick and Newcastle provide additional public transport links throughout the region. More information is available in our Getting to section.
Parking
Parking is available onsite for visitors attending Footsteps in the Forest. Accessible parking is also available for Blue Badge holders. Visitors should follow event signage and the instructions of event stewards on arrival.
Toilets
Toilets are located adjacent to the car park at Slieve Gullion Forest Park and include baby changing facilities for visitors with young children.
In addition to the permanent facilities at Slieve Gullion Forest Park, additional temporary toilet facilities will be provided onsite during the festival near the trailhead.
Medical and Security Services
Security personnel and Child Protection Officers will be stationed throughout the trail At Slieve Gullion to assist visitors and respond to any security concerns or emergencies. Emergency medical staff and facilities are available onsite to manage any health-related incidents. Signage will direct visitors to these facilities if required.
Access to performances
A British Sign Language (BSL) interpreted session will take place at 6pm on Monday 26 October 2026 to support visitors who use sign language.

Assistance Dogs
Registered assistance dogs are welcome. Unfortunately, Footsteps in the Forest is not suitable for dogs, and we kindly ask visitors to leave their four-legged friends at home for the comfort and safety of all visitors.

Slieve Gullion Forest Park opening hours during Footsteps in the Forest
Slieve Gullion Forest Park will remain open to the general public until 2.30pm each day during Footsteps in the Forest. After this time, access will be restricted to Footsteps in the Forest ticket holders to allow event operations to take place safely.
Tickets for Footsteps in the Forest at Slieve Gullion Forest Park will be released here on Thursday 1 October 2026 at 12noon.
