Celtic Utopia Útóipe Cheilteach | Newry Arts Festival

Newry Town Hall, Bank Parade, Newry, Down, BT34 1DQ
Celtic Utopia Útóipe Cheilteach

About

We open Newry Arts Festival 2026 with a powerful and timely documentary, Celtic Utopia, a vibrant portrait of a new Ireland and its dynamic music scene.

The film explores a post-colonial society wrestling with its heritage, where folk music carries both the weight of oppression and the dream of a brighter future. Today's Irish folk renaissance sees artists emerging from punk, hip-hop and beyond, rediscovering ancient traditions and reshaping them in bold and unexpected ways.

Through song, storytelling and striking archive footage, Celtic Utopia takes audiences on a ballad tour around the island, connecting past and present, reflecting on Ireland's first century of partial independence, and capturing a culture actively reimagining itself.
Join us for an unforgettable opening night celebrating music, identity and the power of creativity to help heal and transform.
