About

Hailing from Portaferry in County Down, Stephen Smyth has dedicated almost 40 years to the music industry, building a reputation as one of Ireland's most versatile and engaging performers.
Over the years, Stephen has shared the stage with some of the biggest names in Irish country and showband music, including Philomena Begley, The Indians, Dominic Kirwan, and Declan Nerney. These experiences helped shape his distinctive style and stage presence before forming his own band in 2005. For the past 21 years, The Stephen Smyth Band has gone from strength to strength. Alongside his trusted colleague John Taylor from County Tyrone, Stephen leads one of the busiest touring acts on the circuit today, delivering high-energy performances that blend country classics, Irish favourites, and crowd-pleasing hits.

The band has recently returned from a highly successful tour of the United States, followed by performances in Denmark, and they are already preparing to head back to the USA again at the end of April. Despite their international success, Stephen and John always look forward to performing closer to home, where their music first found its roots.

One of the highlights of their calendar is their much-loved annual country concert at the St Patrick Centre in Downpatrick. This year's show takes place on Sunday 17th May at 3:30pm, promising an afternoon of great music, memories, and entertainment.
Joining them as a special guest will be Shawn Cuddy, originally from County Laois and now based in Donegal. Known for his warm personality, storytelling, and energetic performances, Shawn always brings something special to the stage.

With decades of experience, international touring, and a genuine love for entertaining, The Stephen Smyth Band continues to captivate audiences wherever they go—keeping the spirit of country and Irish music alive for generations old and new.
