About
Syenite Cottage is a lovely three bedroom terrace town house, sleeping up to six guests in the heart of Rostrevor.
Rostrevor is one of the prettiest coastal villages in Northern Ireland and a great base to explore Carlingford Lough, the Mournes, Cooley Peninsular and beautiful coastal walks on foot, bike, car or boat.
The name comes from the Irish Ros, meaning wooded headland, and Trevor from the 17th century Trevor family who settled there from Denbighshire.
Before that it was known as Caisleán Ruaidhrí (Rory’s Castle). Interestingly, the spelling “Rostrevor” refers to the village while the wider townland is spelt as “Rosstrevor” with an additional “s”.
There are several great places of interest including the Fairy Glen River, home of fairies, and the Ross Monument, an obelisk put up by the Ross family who lived in Kilbroney Park.
The “Big Stone” (Cloughmore) is a massive boulder on the slopes of Slieve Martin which is a great walk from the village ( about four hours) or top carpark ( about 20 minutes. Landmarks include a small listed church and graveyard on the earlier site of St Bronach. The Catholic Church has the bell of Bronach, cast around 900AD.
The cottage is in a quiet cul de sac with free off road parking and is a tranquil haven from which to enjoy the hustle and bustle of the village, only minutes away. There is a useful guide to the village, where to eat and drink and how to enjoy all the outside activities. The kitchen and living space in Syenite Cottage is designed for social, communal gatherings where everyone can chat and socialise whilst joining in on food prep and cooking. The cottage offers flexible, luxury accommodation as 2 bedrooms have superking beds which can split into singles, & the thrid bedroom has adult bunk beds so ideally suited for families and/or friends. Minutes from the village, The Fairy Glen and Kilbroney Park for world class outdoor activities and some superb local bars and restaurants this is an ideal location for a short vacation or longer stays.
This is our first summer listed and we have already received five star reviews from every guest who has stayed with us so far.
