About
Newpoint Players bring Aidan McQuade's powerful drama to Finegan's & Son for a special live script reading as part of Newry Arts Festival 2026.
Imagining Frederick Douglass addressing an Irish audience in 1893, the play reflects on his visit to Ireland, his encounter with Daniel O'Connell, and the shared histories of oppression and resistance that link Ireland and the United States. Through a dynamic ensemble performance, the script explores freedom, conscience and the enduring struggle for equality.
Featuring Mark Assante (Fair City, Give My Head Peace, Good Vibrations) alongside fellow cast members of Newpoint Players, this intimate staging offers a stirring evening of history, memory and transatlantic solidarity.
