About
Monday 2 March – Saturday 21 March
Susan Mallon's Ballysallagh Forest is a deeply personal and reflective body of work inspired by a place she has walked for over twenty years. Set within a 17th century woodland landscape, the exhibition brings together photography and artistic interpretation rooted in memory, atmosphere and connection to place.
Eight years ago, using a simple mobile phone camera, Susan began documenting moments within the forest. What began as observation gradually became something more contemplative. Through light, shadow, shifting leaves and quiet detail, she sensed layers of presence within the landscape — echoes of past lives, fragments of history and stories carried in the trees themselves.
Her work reflects on time, memory and the traces that remain. References to wartime relics, old clothing styles and imagined figures from other eras emerge through her imagery, alongside the rich wildlife of the forest — foxes, badgers, robins and squirrels — all part of the living ecosystem that surrounds her.
For Susan, Ballysallagh Forest represents more than landscape. It is mystery, stillness and sanctuary. It is the oxygen of ancient trees, the movement of leaves like children playing, the sense of peace and serenity found in solitude. Through her photographs and artwork, she invites audiences to experience what the forest has given her — its spiritual connection, its wildlife, its history and its quiet beauty.
This exhibition is her offering to the public. In her own words, she brings you Ballysallagh Forest.
