We currently collect and process the following information:
DISTRICT RESIDENTS
· We ask to view the photographic ID and proof of address of visitors who wish to obtain a free or reduced-price car parking permit (district residents only) for Council forest parks.
· Against the registered district household address, we collect and process the following information:
- First name and surname of the resident collecting the permit.
- Contact telephone number.
- Email address.
- Two vehicle registration number plates.
NON-DISTRICT RESIDENTS
We collect and process the following information:
- First name and surname of the person purchasing the permit.
- Contact telephone number.
- Email address.
- Two vehicle registration number plates.
The personal information we process is provided to us directly by you when you visit Council’s forest park car park offices or Visitor Information Centres in order to obtain a forest park parking permit.
We obtain the list of registered District household addresses via Council records for bin collections and rates.
We use the information that you have given us for the following purposes:
- to determine whether your residence is within the Newry, Mourne and Down District area thereby enabling entitlement to one free park permit.
- to set up an account with our contracted parking provider, FAAC (UK) Limited T/A Hub Parking Technology, so that your car number plates will be active upon the introduction of automated barriers and number-plate recognition cameras later in 2026. Users will be able to gain access to this account via a web browser or by downloading a mobile App and can use the account for various matters including to update vehicle number plates and purchase additional permits.
Your personal information will be shared with our authorised data sub-processors:
- FAAC (UK) Limited T/A Hub Parking Technology
- Electro Automation (NI) Ltd
- AWS Ireland.

Your information is securely stored electronically on Council servers and on the servers of our authorised data sub-processors in compliance with statutory requirements under data protection legislation and in accordance with data protection principles. It will not be retained for longer than is strictly necessary.

Your right of access - You have the right to ask us for copies of your personal information.
Your right to rectification - You have the right to ask us to rectify personal information you think is inaccurate. You also have the right to ask us to complete information you think is incomplete.

You are not required to pay any charge for exercising your rights. If you make a request, we have one month to respond to you.
