Rediscover The Annesley Walled Garden

Castlewellan Arboretum and Annesley Gardens, Castlewellan Forest Park, Castlewellan, County Down, BT31 9BU
Reopening of Annesley Walled Garden

About

Come and rediscover the Annesley Walled Garden at Castlewellan Forest Park. Created and developed by generations of Annesleys, this internationally renowned Walled Garden has been restored as part of the Castlewellan Historic Demesne project co-funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund and Newry, Mourne and Down District Council.

Explore the exotic trees and flora and discover the restored fountains and tea house to name a few. As you wander the garden paths and rediscover the Walled Garden keep an eye out for our charismatic native red squirrels. On the Victorian Terrace enjoy the sound of a harpist playing in the restored Vine house and join in the family activities on offer for the opening weekends such as face painting, nature crafts, storytelling and a variety of entertainment.

Guided tours of the garden will be running at 10am, 12pm and 2pm during the opening weekends (7th, 8th, 14th and 15th March) 2 with daily tours at 2pm between 9th-12th March with an 11am tour on Friday 13th March.
Early booking is recommended to secure a spot as spaces are limited.

Story telling will also be available in the Head Gardener's cottage at 11am, 1pm and 3pm, booking on site only, on a first come first served basis.

Entry is free into the Walled Garden; however, car parking charges apply when visiting Castlewellan Forest Park. Some activities may be subject to weather.

A free shuttle bus will be running from the main car park to the main gate of Walled Garden and returning. To take advantage of the shuttle bus, please look for the Event flag in the main car park.

From 9 March the Annesley Walled Garden will be open from 9am to 4pm daily, weather permitting, with the exception of the second opening weekend when it will be open from 10am to 4pm.
