About

St John’s Point Lighthouse stands at the southern tip of the Lecale Peninsula in County Down, overlooking the entrance to Dundrum Bay. Positioned across the bay from Newcastle to the west and Killough to the east, it is the tallest mainland lighthouse in Ireland. The lighthouse serves as a vital navigational beacon, warning vessels of the treacherous coastline and hazardous waters of Dundrum Bay. The cape takes its name from a church dedicated to St John in 1170.

The lighthouse offers spectacular coastal views, peaceful beach walks, and a quiet, secluded atmosphere that captures the isolation of lighthouse life. Visitors also have the unique opportunity to stay in the lighthouse for an unforgettable experience.
