As part of the Homes for Everyone PEACEPLUS project, we are launching a series of events dedicated to the history of social housing.
On Thursday, 28 May, at 7.30pm join David Coyles for an eye-opening exploration of Ulster University’s Hidden Barriers research. He will examine how Belfast’s everyday architecture and housing designs are not just neutral spaces, but structures that continue to reflect and reinforce the spatial legacies of conflict and sectarian division from the Troubles to the present day.
On Saturday, 30 May, at 2.30pm Paddy Gray, one of Northern Ireland’s leading housing policy experts, will deliver a keynote on the history and future of social housing, reflecting on the legacy of the Housing Executive, changing housing policy, affordability, supply pressures, and the role social housing continues to play in shaping communities today.
To conclude the Homes for Everyone PEACEPLUS project, we invite you to a cinematic journey through Northern Ireland’s social housing history with Homes for Everyone: Archive and Film Screening.
On Thursday, 4 June, 7.30pm at Lislea Comunity Centre, Brónagh McAtasney presents archive films from Northern Ireland Screen’s Digital Film Archive exploring public housing history, including the 40-minute film Craigavon: New City, examining the creation of Craigavon and the displacement of rural communities.
These events are free of charge. To book email declan.Carroll@nmandd.org
