About
The costume case now features the uniform of Captain John McParland. John came from a Newry seafaring family. When John left school at the age of 15, like many young men in Newry, he found employment on Fisher's ships. He retired in 1982.
Also, on display at the Museum are examples of the intricate embroidery known locally as "flowering." This delicate white-on-white needlework became a distinctive craft of the Mourne region during the 19th and early 20th centuries.
